Hiking the Appalachian Trail is Easy: Especially if You've Never Hiked Before
Undertaking a six-month journey of the Appalachian Trail is tough enough. Doing the hike with no experience would seem to be dangerously optimistic. Yet Steve Adams, an overweight man in his early 60s, chose the Appalachian Trail as his only bucket list item, and set out in March 2014 with Mt Katahdin as his intended destination.
You can read how he fared in the two volumes of his story of that hike in My Appalachian Trial Volumes I & II.
This short book came from the title of a talk he gave to the Appalachian Trail Club of Florida (Yes, there is one!!). Once he had delivered the talk, members of the club told him he’d given excellent advice, so he took that advice and parlayed it into this free book. It covers the day-to-day details of a long-distance hike, introducing the reader to such topics as gear choices and how he made them, resupply options, friends (on and off the trail), water, dangers, and “yellow-blazing.”
You may never get the chance to go on this journey of a lifetime, but Hiking the Appalachian Trail is Easy: Especially if You’ve Never Hiked Before will give you a little taster of what could be your next great adventure.
